Lab Manager

About us:

cTRL Therapeutics is a biotechnology company focused on developing cell therapies for the treatment of advanced solid tumors. By harnessing the power of cTRLs – a rare and potent circulating T cell population found in blood and equipped to fight cancer – we can engineer solid tumor cell therapies without needing access to tumor tissue.

What you’ll do:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced candidate to coordinate, lead and facilitate laboratory operations at the Portal Innovations space located in Chicago, as well as coordinate with vendors for tumor sample procurement. You will play a key role in the company and will work closely with the research team to build our infrastructure and capabilities. You will collaborate with internal team members and external vendors as we execute various company milestones to build and advance our pipeline of cTRL therapeutics. You will bring a strong operational background to support the development and approval of cell therapies and/or other advanced modalities. Additionally, you will bring exceptional organizational, operational, and interpersonal skills to this role.

Reporting line: Reports to the Head of Research.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Biospecimen Procurement and Processing

    • Provide front line management to biospecimen procurement and maintain alignment with key corporate objectives

    • Manage interactions and relationships with academic and commercial vendors

    • Track biospecimen forecasts, budget, and inventory measures

    • Coordinate all aspects of tumor procurement including but not limited to contract management, purchase orders, invoicing, and logistics

    • Update Laboratory Inventory Management System (LIMS) with patient information including redacted pathology reports and ensure patient consent is
      documented

    • Support the team with processing samples as they arrive including but not limited to processing fresh whole blood to PBMCs, tumor tissue to dissociated tumor
      cells, etc.

  • Facility and Laboratory Management

    • Serve as primary contact for all laboratory related issues, acting as a liaison to property management, contractors, and employees

    • Plan, develop, organize, and implement policies, procedures, training and standards for lab operations to ensure that the efficiency, effectiveness, safety and quality control of the laboratory comply with federal, state, and company regulations and standards

    • Leads planning for capital equipment, infrastructure and space, design and development as it relates to existing space and facility expansion

    • Be the point of contact and maintain business processes such as for electronic laboratory notebooks, laboratory inventory management system, software, asset management, procurement, and other documentation management

    • Supervise, coordinate and perform facilities support work, including coordination of contractor and vendor services, facilities maintenance and planning, EHS
      liaison, supply ordering and delivering, and document retention.

    • Maintain and develop standard operating procedures (SOPs), troubleshooting breakdowns, performing preventative maintenance and verifications.

    • Manage lab equipment purchase, including price negotiations and installation/qualification of equipment

    • Work with management/finance and scientific staff for fixed asset forecasting

  • Communication

    • Consistently inform lab members about lab operations, samples procurement, process changes and updates

    • Use interpersonal skills to resolve team and client conflicts, promoting collaboration and productivity

You should have:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience biotechnology industry and/or laboratory management

  • Previous industry work experience in drug development

  • Experience in lab management, including equipment services

  • Experience training personnel in lab safety and best practices

  • Experience with document management systems, electronic laboratory notebook experience is preferred
